    BlackBerry PlayBook OS2.0

On April 18, 2011, Research In Motion (RIMM) released their BlackBerry PlayBook and I myself have owned one since the day of release and have been very pleased with it since.

Unlike many of the naysayers, I didn’t believe not having a native email or calendar client on the PlayBook was that big of a deal.  As a BlackBerry Storm 9530 owner (upgraded to the Torch 9850 on September 8, 2011), I was able to use “BlackBerry Bridge” on my devices to send and receive emails. By using the bridge (tethering) on my devices I can also surf the internet at will and at no additional cost.  This is just amazing, since we all know that the bottom line is very important to all businesses.

Then on February 21, 2012, BlackBerry released OS 2.0 and brought along multiple changes.  One very important change was the introduction of a very dynamic and user friendly native email, contacts and calendar client which also integrates Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

OS 2.0 also introduced the Android App Player.  Although you are not actually using Android Play (formally known as Android Market Place) to download apps, you can still pick up originally made for Android apps that have been ported over, by the developer into BlackBerry App World for you to download.  Not all Android apps are available, but many are and I do recommend trying them out.

Another great feature of OS 2.0 is the ability to use your BlackBerry smartphone as a remote for your PlayBook.  I personally find it very helpful when watching movies from my PlayBook and viewing them on my TV via the HDMI port.  I don’t have to get up to push play, fast forward, pause or stop, I can do it from my BlackBerry smartphone.  I can also view emails, picture, docs or even websites on my BlackBerry smartphone from my PlayBook.  As if the PlayBook is a separate monitor, truly amazing.

In all, I do recommend that you get out and pick one up.  I do carry mine with me everywhere I go and find myself to be more organized in both my personal and professional lives.

    Happy Birthday BlackBerry PlayBook

We took Sydney to her first concert- the Fresh Beat Band- this weekend. As you can tell from the dancing in the aisles, she had a great time! Please ignore the crazy mom (ahem) to the right that apparently knows all the words to the songs.
